The WP Engine PHP Compatibility Checker can be used by any WordPress website on any web host to check PHP version compatibility. When updating to PHP 7.2+ this is a great plugin to install and check if your website will not break after your update. many themes are not ready for PHP 7+ and will cause major issues. So the WP Engine team wanted to give back to the WordPress community by developing a plugin that will help you make sure you are safe to update your PHP version. The plugin will check the code of any other plugins and themes and give you back a report with compatibility issues so you can fix it before updating. WP Engine is a proud supporter and contributor to WordPress.org open-source community.
The hosting itself is fine. But I think they reel in a lot of people that don't know much about wordpress and more or less take advantage of that by charging an exuberant amount per month for hosting. I've been in this game a while and I know what is a decent price and what is is not. I got a good deal with WP Engine so I signed up with them. That's the only reason I signed up. Hopefully they still honor the deal in the coming year but I doubt they will. My websites are running super fast so it'll be a shame if I have to leave.
WPE is over-rated. They have a lot of issues that people not in the know are unaware of. The canonical name wpengine.c causes double indexing on google and DESTROYS SEO. If you try to point the name back to your domain you run into issues with looping. They also force a no index in robots.txt without alerting anyone of doing so. This disallow gets copied over to the live site causing your site to not be indexed by google. Again DESTROYING your SEO. They added this disallow to solve the problem of double indexing, which does not work anyway because google still indexes it (the correct way is to use htaccess). So in the end the site winds up not being indexed and gets points against it from google.

If you are looking to run a WordPress site and performance is of significance to you, look no further then WP Engine. The premium hosting provider's state-of-the-art technology, including hardware and software, is second to none. In addition, the support staff is made up of WordPress experts who can provide guidance and expertise instead of just creating support tickets. We found our experience with WP Engine to be outstanding, and the service was both snappy and simple to use.
WP Engine partners with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to build your websites on the same industry-leading architecture those companies use to power their own digital experiences. Global data centers and cloud coverage ensure your site is available and loading fast no matter where your visitors are in the world. And, with WP Engine optimizing these cloud environments for you, you can spend your technical resources building beautiful experiences instead of the systems to power them.

Our site is committed to publishing independent, accurate content guided by strict editorial guidelines. Before articles and reviews are published on our site, they undergo a thorough review process performed by a team of independent editors and subject-matter experts to ensure the content’s accuracy, timeliness, and impartiality. Our editorial team is separate and independent of our site’s advertisers, and the opinions they express on our site are their own. To read more about our team members and their editorial backgrounds, please visit our site’s About page.
And like speed & performance, WP Engine basically takes all those best practices and does them for you. They run automated backups to keep everything off-site & ready to roll back if something happens. Since you technically have an “install” on their server (rather than an account) – they tackle a lot of security issues globally on the server level.

Support – Our support team is a shining beacon within the company. We maintain a truly world-class NPS score of 86 along with 3 back-to-back Gold Stevie awards for customer service to prove it (more on that here). The team offers their best every day in an effort to serve our customers’ professional growth, and it shows in the feedback we get from them. This mentality is very much in line with one of our core values – Customer Inspired.

Recruitment process here is a complete sham. The only place I know where you submit your application and then you get a canned response five minutes later indicating "thanks but no thanks". Their recruiters, and I use that term very loosely, don't have the fundamental skills to appropriately vet candidates if all they do is push a button to send off lame canned response notices. Where can I apply for that job because it sounds easy to be lazy.
All in all, I can safely say that, while they are expensive for small Personal users, they are 100 % worth it. You truly feel like they are actually doing great stuff with your money. Speed, up-time, stability, security and support are nothing short of amazing, and they really do deserve credit for that. It’s not for nothing that Automattic, the company behind WordPress, had invested money in WPEngine, They live up to their name in all the ways I can think of, and maybe even more.
WP Engine is awesome. I have a number of sites hosted with them. Super fast, easy backup/restore, staging area to play with changes, and fantastic support. Hosting is definitely an area where you tend to get what you pay for. If you have a site that you really care about or that you’re trying to actually make money with, then WP Engine is a no-brainer and absolutely worth it.
When I checked out their websites, I found they had an amazing plethora of options and security just for WordPress which I could only dream of at the web hosts I had partnered up with earlier. There was a downside however, the price. I finally came along WPEngine and I decided to sign myself up with them, due to a promotional code which allowed the first 3 months to be hosted for only 4$ a month, instead of the usual 29$.

Speed – WP Engine works exclusively with WordPress, meaning our platform is completely optimized to deliver fast, secure WordPress experiences. And as mentioned above, we use a bespoke combination of technologies to ensure high levels of site performance. All these work in harmony to accomplish an average page load times improvement of 38% when moving from other hosting companies. The WP Engine platform is designed to scale so there is no reduction in speed as customers’ sites and business scales.
And then there’s a separate level of managed WordPress Hosting where you are not really buying hosting per se – but rather services to keep your WordPress install live. Basically, a Managed WordPress Hosting service offers a menu of services tailored to WordPress at a higher price point, so that the website owner can focus less on speed + security and more on the website content + functionality.
According to WP Engine, it offers numerous support engineers per customer, and each one has years of WordPress experience. The CMS offers support via customer service software Zendesk by WordPress experts. Most tickets are answered within 30 minutes to get you back up online. The Business Package, which many companies opt for, includes phone support and the opt-in for a dedicated account manager to provide familiarity with the same person who can answer questions.
WP Engine does not include email accounts or functions for sending email messages from your domain. But, their hosting does support this. You will have to set up a 3rd party email provider to send email messages from your WordPress site. This will let you send bulk email messages as part of an email marketing campaign or newsletter updates to blog subscribers.
There are four different plan options offered by WP Engine for small and medium businesses. They primarily differ based on the number of sites you'll be able to host, the number of visits your site will be allowed each month, and the amount of bandwidth you'll receive. The Startup Plan allows you to set up one website, provides 50GB bandwidth, and will support up to 25,000 visitors each month.
WP Engine is the best-managed WordPress hosting provider founded by entrepreneur Jason Cohen in 2010. Jason is a very smart and brilliant entrepreneur where he funded other companies’ prior WP Engine. WP Engine is Headquartered in Austin, Texas and now has over 700 employees. WP Engine support over 85,000 customers in over 140 countries, and over 500,000 web experiences globally. The goal for WP Engine was to give customers fully managed WordPress hosting so they can focus on their business and not on the hosting itself. He hired only professional WordPress experts to help manage and support WP Engine. The Austin-based company offers multiple hosting plans, all of which are optimized for WordPress.
What followed, was nothing but amazement. At first, when entering the administration panel, I felt like it was a little bare bones. There weren’t halve as many pretty icons as there were on cPanel, which I was used to, and it was a bit strange to encounter something like this. However, after reading through their extensive documentation on how to do literally everything to start up Your Site, it was a true piece of cake.

From an overall infrastructure standpoint, we have partnered with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to provide customers with a range of enterprise-grade solutions that deliver lightning-fast, scalable, highly available and secure experiences. In addition, having high quality partners like these allows us to provide data centers in wide variety of locations – 18 in total. This global presence gives us the ability to serve more customers at a local level, where they see further performance and speed improvements as a result.
Last year they changed 10 installs to 5 installs for the same price. I'm blown away by their technical support though, in fact, it's the best I've experienced. Check carefully before you sign up and see what all you get for the price since they change their packages often it seems. I've stayed with them since I've had horrid experiences with tech support from other companies in the past, and it's not a fun thing when you spend all night long trying to do all of the research yourself because no one wanted to help you. With that said, I've certainly saved a lot of time and hassle from using WP Engine. Time is priceless and I'll keep spending whatever it takes (within reason) to keep having superior customer service.

WP Engine offers a powerful form of WordPress hosting that comes with an informative customer service team, reliable uptime, and cloud platform flexibility. If you're serious about building a WordPress-powered website, WP Engine is a fine place to start. Just remember that you must turn to a third-party company for a domain name and email accounts, and the base plan slacks 24/7 phone supprt. A2, on the other hand, is the Editors' Choice for smaller businesses that don't require enterprise-class WordPress hosting (and don't want to pay the associated fees).

Based on our experience with WP Engine, we found the interface to be incredibly straightforward. The customer dashboard is incredibly responsive, fast, and easy to navigate. It's apparent that WP Engine has focussed on having a modern home website — showing off the company's commitment to usability in every aspect of its business model. Once our site was launched, we were in the typical wp-admin area of WordPress and were able to get a wait time of only 42 milliseconds for our first byte. We probably don't have to tell you this, but that is extremely fast!
Unfortunately, WP Engine's toll-free, 24/7 telephone support isn't available to people who've signed up for the Startup plan; you must be at least a Growth subscriber to get someone on the horn aroudn the clock. Otherwise, you're limited to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (CST) hours. This could prove vexing if you're a Startup customer who wants to speak to a human being at 3 in the morning. At $35 per month, this seems a bit stingy. WP Engine compensates with 24/7 live chat, so you aren't totally left out in the cold if you're a Startup customer.
Our actionable insights tools, like Page Performance and Content Performance are always a hit. Overall however, our most popular tool would be Application Performance. It provides code-level visibility to help teams troubleshoot faster, optimize their WordPress experiences, and increase development agility. It gives development and IT operation teams the visibility they need to build and maintain great WordPress digital experiences.

WP Engine is a great company to work for if you go anywhere but support. If you do go in for support get ready for a high stress levels as management will want to enforce metrics while not having a full understanding of the metrics to begin with. When you start out management will judge you almost immediately as they do have their favorites. This will affect advancement which is very slow paced than advertised unless you fall into said favoritism. Like anywhere else it is cut throat and other employees will not hesitate to point out mistakes as failures rather than making it a learning experience. The pay for support is grossly underpaid compared to other companies out there. The culture is great and that is about the only thing great as they do have out of work functions for team outings. Pros Free lunch, Culture, Environment Cons Management, Long Hours, Office Politics.
WP Engine gives you the keys to digital excellence. We arm you with a scalable platform that includes an integrated set of tools, bullet-proof security, services, and site performance analytics together with lightning-fast managed hosting. From pitching and signing new accounts to retaining clients and growing your business, WP Engine is with you every step of the way.
That’s where managed WordPress hosting comes in. WP Engine takes care of (nearly) all speed concerns. They have customized servers with extremely aggressive caching and even more advanced “stack” than a typical web host. They also have trained support who will go into your WordPress install and identify the exact chokepoint to get your site moving.
Global Edge Security is a high-performance advanced security solution with DDoS protection and a web application firewall (WAF), designed to keep your sites secure at the network edge while delivering a faster experience for your customers. WP Engine’s Global Edge Security extends the security benefits already included on WP Engine’s platform, such as managed core updates, two-factor authentication, and daily backups.
Pros – high uptime, high performance (sites can handle 100s of visitors at once without nose diving performance), patches are taken care of, CDN is awesome, snapshot and staging site saves our developers 100s of hours of time, site migration plugin makes moving sites easy, support is responsive and 24/7 (a few years ago it wasn’t some there are conflicting things around the web on this)
