The hosting itself is fine. But I think they reel in a lot of people that don't know much about wordpress and more or less take advantage of that by charging an exuberant amount per month for hosting. I've been in this game a while and I know what is a decent price and what is is not. I got a good deal with WP Engine so I signed up with them. That's the only reason I signed up. Hopefully they still honor the deal in the coming year but I doubt they will. My websites are running super fast so it'll be a shame if I have to leave.
All in all, I can safely say that, while they are expensive for small Personal users, they are 100 % worth it. You truly feel like they are actually doing great stuff with your money. Speed, up-time, stability, security and support are nothing short of amazing, and they really do deserve credit for that. It’s not for nothing that Automattic, the company behind WordPress, had invested money in WPEngine, They live up to their name in all the ways I can think of, and maybe even more.
I have used quite a few big name hosting companies through the years but they were all the hosting companies that sell their service by price and with the 99.9% uptime promise which is usually pure BS. After years of issues with downtime over an hour at a time slow speed spells and tech support totally denying there was a problem, I switched my main WordPress site which is a life insurance website to WP Engine. The change was like going from driving a Pinto to a Mercedes Benz. I now have consistent super speed, great security which is a major factor for a WordPress site and a team of people that handle all of the updates and actually maintain the website. They even keep track of everyones plugins to make sure none of the plugins are prone to problems that consume heavy resources or become security risks. The only thing I can say is you get what you pay for. I wish I new about these people years ago. It could have saved me a ton of aggravation. When you think of the thousands of dollars you can invest into website design, it only makes good sense to use good hosting. A hosting company can either make or break a nice website.
That said – the tough thing about customer support is that so much of the judgment is anecdotal. Everyone has a story, but you never know if the story is because they talked to the one rockstar-vs-rookie having an awesome-vs-terrible day. Like I mention in every hosting review, the important part is to see if a company treats support as an investment or a cost.
My site was under attack from a Distributed Denial of Service attack on my old shared host. I was getting 1.5 million requests per hour that took my site down and 20 other sites who were also hosting on the same server. It took the old host three days to identify the problem, and even then offered no real solution. I switched to WP Engine and within hours the DDOS was dealt with *and* my website was loading about four times faster. I definitely recommend WP Engine!

Their pricing is competitive in the Managed WordPress Hosting space – and they offer more features than “WordPress hosting” plans from other hosting brands. Their feature-set is unmatched for savvy DIYers, WordPress website developers and/or high-traffic sites that don’t want to worry about hosting issues.
Based on our experience with WP Engine, we found the interface to be incredibly straightforward. The customer dashboard is incredibly responsive, fast, and easy to navigate. It's apparent that WP Engine has focussed on having a modern home website — showing off the company's commitment to usability in every aspect of its business model. Once our site was launched, we were in the typical wp-admin area of WordPress and were able to get a wait time of only 42 milliseconds for our first byte. We probably don't have to tell you this, but that is extremely fast!
