By default, sites hosted at WP Engine with page that ends in a number, (e.g. example.com/page/1) or in a query arg, (e.g. example.com/mypage/?myproduct=name), will be redirected to the page before the number or query arg sequence begins (site.com/page, site.com/category, site.com/mypage/).* This setting, known as “Redirect Bots”, is a major SEO issue as it will limit Google bots to discover content on your site and impact website PageRank flow through your site.
I found WP Engine exceedingly expensive, its staff very unresponsive to resolving technical issues and , when you point this out to them, they force you to terminate hosting contract in 1 week, in total breach of their own T&Cs. WP Engine is highly unprofessional, techically unskilled and unlawfall, not to mention their ourageously high cost. Stay away
A simple oversight in updating your plugins can be a big deal. Plugin vulnerabilities represent 55.9% of the known entry points for attacks, but keeping plugins up to date is time-consuming and can cause your—or your clients’—mission critical site to break. WP Engine’s Smart Plugin Manager is the trusted solution to keep all your plugins up to date and your sites secure.
Last year they changed 10 installs to 5 installs for the same price. I'm blown away by their technical support though, in fact, it's the best I've experienced. Check carefully before you sign up and see what all you get for the price since they change their packages often it seems. I've stayed with them since I've had horrid experiences with tech support from other companies in the past, and it's not a fun thing when you spend all night long trying to do all of the research yourself because no one wanted to help you. With that said, I've certainly saved a lot of time and hassle from using WP Engine. Time is priceless and I'll keep spending whatever it takes (within reason) to keep having superior customer service.
Some of our customers are highly technical, so whenever they contact us, it’s with difficult, interesting problems—not ones that can be solved with a knowledge base article or a simple, obvious response. Therefore, we started creating pathways for those customers to get to engineers faster—people who can work on the mind-bending stuff. Of course we don’t have that 24/7 yet, like we do with regular support. Fortunately, those problems are usually OK to be solved during normal business hours, so overall this approach has been effective.
WP Engine partners with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to build your websites on the same industry-leading architecture those companies use to power their own digital experiences. Global data centers and cloud coverage ensure your site is available and loading fast no matter where your visitors are in the world. And, with WP Engine optimizing these cloud environments for you, you can spend your technical resources building beautiful experiences instead of the systems to power them.
I’ve worked with various hosting providers over the years and WPEngine has provided, by miles, the best support ever. They helped us improve the management and quality of our site massively, particularly through the suggestions surrounding management of staging environments, spam signups/rogue traffic reduction and general maintenance. Furthermore, our site is running smoother than ever, despite continuing to grow in size.
For this testing, I used a website monitoring tool to track my WP Engine-hosted test site's uptime. Every 15 minutes, the tool pings my website and sends me an email if it is unable to contact the site for longer than one minute. I look at the data for the most recent 14 days for each site's review. In my newest tests, WP Engine proved incredibly stable. In fact, WP Engine didn't go down once during that two week testing period. As long as it keeps on this course, you can count on it deliver a rock-solid Web hosting experience.
We have slower speeds with WPE in comparison to a cheaper route with a collo or digitalocean. Also if you run ads on your site, they have no solution for you. You still need to find a host for your ads, in which case you might as well host wp there as well. Its that or allow yourself to be a part of the game where WPE steals clients with shady business practices that hurt not just the developers but also their own customers.
Unfortunately, WP Engine's toll-free, 24/7 telephone support isn't available to people who've signed up for the Startup plan; you must be at least a Growth subscriber to get someone on the horn aroudn the clock. Otherwise, you're limited to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (CST) hours. This could prove vexing if you're a Startup customer who wants to speak to a human being at 3 in the morning. At $35 per month, this seems a bit stingy. WP Engine compensates with 24/7 live chat, so you aren't totally left out in the cold if you're a Startup customer.

If you run a small business that doesn't require enterprise-class WordPress hosting, I suggest checking out A2, the category's co-Editors' Choice. The Linux-based A2 offers four excellent WordPress hosting tiers, starting at $7.99 per month, offers unlimited storage and monthly data transfers across the board. The plans top out with the $24.46 per month managed package that includes unlimited databases and websites.
Many things have changed since WHSR shifted out. Various new features were added as technology advances, the company is funded by a large group of investors including Automattic (the folks behind WordPress.com), and many bloggers and WP experts regard them as one of the best managed WordPress hosting (there were also some who go against them, more about that later).
“I spent the majority of my post-Trinity career trying to be perceived not as a female leader but just somebody who gets things done. But being an executive who is also a mother of two daughters, I realized that I had a responsibility to advocate bringing your full self to work. Being different is what makes all of us stronger. I needed to have that realization personally in order to be a champion for it.
